Prevent Coffee Spill Burns and Protect Your Business With Our Safety Poster
As a business owner or operator, the best way to protect your customers, staff, and reputation from the damaging effects of coffee spill burns is to prevent spills from happening in the first place.
We set out on a mission to do just that.
We created a succinct, clear safety poster for use in restaurants, coffee bars, and other food service businesses that serve hot beverages—including airlines, ferries, trains, and more. With straightforward messaging and an eye-catching design, the poster is designed to be displayed where it is easily seen by employees and can be readily referred to.
Using our safety poster as part of a company culture that prioritizes safety at every level and includes robust training for hot beverage safety helps protect your customers, your employees, and your brand from coffee spill burns.
How does the safety poster prevent coffee spill burns?
By displaying the safety poster prominently in an area where employees will see it, the poster reinforces best practices for serving hot beverages. These include guidelines for serving at a counter, table-side, and in a drive-thru window, such as:
- Ensuring lids are completely attached
- Avoiding hand transfer
- Prompting the customer (with words) to remember the drink is extremely hot

How else does the safety poster protect your business?
Even when using excellent safety practices, some coffee spill burns will still occur. And no matter how outstanding your service is, you have no control over what the customer does with their drink when they walk or drive away. Being prepared for the reality of a spill can help mitigate some types of significant damage that may happen in its wake.
In addition to best practices for serving hot beverages, the safety poster also features additional sections that:
- Clearly outline how to provide direct help in case of a spill, to reduce the severity of burns
- Cue employees to call emergency services if needed
- Prompt employees to alert management
- Guide employees to collect and preserve critical information in a report to protect the business if a lawsuit is filed
How we developed the safety poster
For years, we’d seen the ubiquitous laminated OSHA posters displayed—by law—to outline workers’ rights under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and restaurant safety awareness posters for employee health and food safety. But never had we seen a formal poster that clearly outlined the steps a business needs to take to prevent hot beverage spills and protect their business from litigation.
With spill burns being a danger and risk anywhere that customers drink coffee, tea, cocoa, and more, we saw the need for a clear, simple reference that would provide this crucial information at the fingertips of employees who serve these hot beverages daily.
With decades of expertise and experience in the coffee and tea industries, we knew we were well-positioned to fill the need.
Throughout development, we gathered feedback from business owners, managers, and training directors across a wide range of food service operations. We focused attention not only on the content, but on making the poster eye-catching and easy to read, so the information would be accessible both as daily reinforcement and when needed in a crisis. Including an image of an actual hot beverage spill burn hammers home the importance of taking beverage safety seriously.
